This stone installation method is known by several names — stacked stone, foot-loaded masonry, or traditional masonry.
In New Zealand, the system we follow is defined by MBIE Determination 2014/017, which recognises three acceptable methods for installing solid stonework:
Type 1: 250 mm stacked stone, tied back to the structure (see figure).
Type 2: 200 mm stacked stone, tied and insulated with EPS.
Type 3: 250 mm stacked stone without a cavity (typically used in landscaping).
We keep pricing simple — whether you choose thin veneer or full-bed stone masonry, the cost is the same. One straightforward way we make the process easier for our customers.
